Gas Conversion
Gas Conversion makes cents
With the price of oil constantly rising, more and more Melbourne drivers are realising the sense in converting their cars to run on LP gas. LP gas, also known as autogas, is up to 60 per cent cheaper than petrol, and while it is not as efficient, it is still cheaper to run your car on LP gas. It burns cleaner, meaning you need to change your oil and spark plugs less frequently.

Better for the environment
LP gas exhaust emissions are better for the
environment than petrol or diesel emissions. Made up of a combination of propane and butane, it emits fewer greenhouse gases and other pollutants and typically produces 20 per cent less smog than petrol or diesel.
Better for your car
Running your car on LP gas can extend the life of your engine. LPG-powered engines operate even more cleanly (in relation to petrol and diesel engines) when the engine is cold. When you consider that most car trips are short ones,
Gas Conversion makes even more sense.
LP gas has been used as a portable fuel source since the mid-19th century. LPG is produced in Australia and known reserves are greater than those of petroleum. Add in the Australian Government rebate of up to $2000 and it’s easy to see why Melbourne motorists are choosing to make the
gas conversion.
Gas conversion: Melbourne is on-board
About 98 per cent of taxis in Melbourne run on LP gas because it’s cheaper and cleaner than petrol or diesel. Diesel emits particulates (that black smoke you see coming from diesel vehicles) that are known to cause sickness; LPG eliminates 90 per cent of these particulates. LPG is also cleaner during the refuelling process. Petrol and diesel emit fumes and chemical vapours that escape into the atmosphere and can be inhaled during fuelling, while LPG fuelling is a sealed process, with no fumes escaping.

The gas conversion process
Converting your car to run on LP gas can be as simple as taking it in for a service. Our trained and accredited installers will discuss the various options with you based on an assessment of your vehicle, in order to choose the capacity and location of your LP gas cylinder. Cylinders are generally placed in the boot of the car but in vehicles with extra clearance (like four-wheel-drives) they can be attached to the undercarriage.
Once the decisions have been made your car is ready for its
gas conversion. Leave it with us and we will install all the components and conduct a full safety and operation check. Our installers will explain your new system and its features, guide you through how to operate it and discuss servicing requirements.
The gas conversion rebate
The Federal Government offers a rebate of up to $2000 to help you with your
gas conversion. The government underwrites gas conversion because it knows that LP gas-powered vehicles are cleaner, greener and cheaper to run. We will provide you with a form that you need to pass to Medicare in order to claim the rebate.
